History

Brindabella Blues Football Club Incorporated is a not-for-profit organisation located in the

heart of the Tuggeranong Valley with our home ground being the Calwell Playing Fields.

 

The Blue Light Soccer Club, which later became the Brindabella Blues Football Club (BBFC),

had been in existence since 1990.  Originally associated with the Police Citizens Youth Club

in Erindale, Blue Light became BBFC in 2002 and was registered as an incorporated

association in the ACT under the Associations Incorporation Act 1991.  In 2006, the Club

expanded further following amalgamation with Fyshwick Beavers Soccer Club.

While the Club has had a changing history in terms of name, club colours and logo, it is now a permanent fixture in the Tuggeranong Valley and is growing from strength to strength. What started off as a small yet thriving club, has turned into approximately 1,000 registered junior and senior players.

Our Aim

The Clubs objectives are to promote, create and maintain a positive learning environment in which players can develop their soccer skills ensuring players of all abilities receive a fair go. 

The club ensures all players develop and maintain a love for the beautiful game of football, have fun and enjoy themselves whilst maintaining respect for each other, their opponents, coaches, referees and the laws of the game.

The Club provides a family atmosphere and with an emphasis on club spirit and partnerships with the community. BBFC offers opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to join in a fun and healthy activity and the chance to be involved in something that is part of our community. The Club strives to create a pathway from juniors through to seniors.

 

Volunteers

The Club is run as a not for profit organisation under the direction of a Management Committee. Dedicated volunteers take on many and varied roles required to run a sporting club including registrations, team grading and allocations, player and coach development, merchandising, catering, maintaining facilities and equipment, promoting the Club through newsletters and its website and organising social events.

The Club also provides opportunities for the development of referees, particularly children taking on this challenging and rewarding experience.

Juniors

• 2019 saw the first year that BBFC has entered the NPL as a stand alone club. The partnership with Tiger FC ceased at the end of the 2018 season allowing BBFC to enter across all junior divisions under Technical Director Lino Fiorese.

• The Club runs Rooball competitions from Under 6 through to Under 9 and participates in Capital Football Junior competitions from Under 10 to Under 18 as well as senior men’s and women’s. The Club has transitioned to the Football Federation of Australia’s small sided game format for Under 6 through to Under 12 age groups, being one of the first clubs in the ACT to do so.

• With the success and profile of the national teams in recent years, and the recognition of football as a great sport for players of all ages, our player base in both juniors and seniors continues to grow. The Club has approximately 800 boys and girls aged 5 to 17 years playing and participating in a sport they can enjoy in a safe and encouraging atmosphere. Junior numbers have grown by over 33 per cent in the past three years.

• BBFC continues to focus on player development, having successfully run school holiday programs and pre-season skills development programs for the junior players and coach-the-coaches clinics for parents and other volunteers interested in coaching teams.

 

Seniors

• 2019 saw our first year with BBFC entering into the National Premier League 2 competition. This marks a big moment in the clubs history as it's the first time BBFC has provided a full NPL program for the under 12s through to the senior men.

• BBFC has approximately 200 senior men and women playing, with senior numbers increasing significantly over the past three years.

• The 2015 season saw BBFC enter the national Football Federation Cup for the first time in the clubs history. The successful campaign resulted in the senior men progressing to the final 16, knocked out by the eventual 2015 National Premier League Champions, Canberra Olympic, in a spirited display of football. The club has been a part of the FFA Cup every season since, progressing to the 2nd round in 3 of the 4 years.

Merchandise Shop

BBFC merchandise is available on Saturday 8.30 – 11.00 am throughout the competition season.  Pre season opening hours will be advertised on this website and in the club newsletter for purchase of playing strips and other club apparel.

Canteen/BBQ Facilities

The BBFC club canteen operates every Saturday from 8:00am to 4:00pm during the competition season.  Opening times may vary due to matches and staffing levels. Players and visitors are able to choose hot food, drinks and snacks from a large variety of stock at very reasonable prices. BBQ items are paid for at the canteen and can be obtained form the BBQ serving area.

The canteen is operated by our Catering Manager and Canteen Supervisor but relies on volunteers each day. Parent support is therefore essential to enable the canteen to function effectively.  Many of the items are freshly prepared, and the canteen is staffed by volunteers. Profits from the canteen are handed to the club to benefit players and members in the purchase of balls, nets, shirts, goals etc.

We are always looking for volunteers to spare a little time to help the club continue to provide its excellent catering facilities at all home games on Saturday. A half an hour of your time is all we ask. Teams will be placed on a roster system for the year so please help out when your team is rostered on.  If you can help, can you please contact the Catering Manager.
